Design, uninterrupted #32

May 28th, 2010

Today’s post highlights the design of GarethDickey.com. The background is an elaborate recreation of an industrial looking metal wall, and the saturated yellow fill is lightened by the brush stroke texture, two vertical columns imitating metal fasteners, and a clever header illustration of a man and a bird sitting atop the wall. The open space to the right of the main content is filled with a large letter “H” made to look as the beginning of a larger text that spans beyond the browser window. A simple two column navigation places main emphasis on highlighting the portfolio, with each project using a slideshow with simple cross fade and transition effects. Texts in header and footer are kept to the minimum to keep as much content as possible above the fold and not to distract too much attention away from the portfolio.
